I actually had some plans to do this, but I can see I’ve been beaten to it. It might be even better with the image in dark blue and pixelated like the text screen.

I had the same thought. For me, the exercise was about the gif making process in PS, which I now understand fairly well. Look for Version 2 in the near future.
What film does that clip come from?
I’ll send you the frame from that gif if you want to edit it yourself and I’ll reincorporate it...

Maximum Overdrive rules. Stephen King coke binge or not.

It’s Maximum Overdrive . That’s Steven King, who wrote and directed the film, using the ATM in his cameo. Here’s the whole scene.

The film is Maximum Overdrive. The film made when Stephen King’s ego (and possible drug abuse) convinced him that de Palma, Kubrick, Carpenter, and Romero were all hacks and the only man fit to direct King qua King was himself. So, he did , with a cameo by himself that is this gif. It stars (among others) Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle, and Yeardley Smith, with a soundtrack by AC/DC. It is so absurdly camp it really has to be seen to be believed.
Short summary, the Earth flies into the tail of a comet - which apparently shrouds evil aliens - and a malign force animates any and all devices with any electric function. From the ATM and bank marquee in the gif to murderous lawn mowers to meat slicers to arcade machines to... the main focus of the film, a marauding pack of possessed semis menacing a Rorke’s Drift of survivors in the Dixie Boy truck stop in Wilmington, NC.

Stephen King says he was high during the entire production and isn’t very proud of the movie.

I saw RR’s post the other day, and agree - it was just begging for this edit, thanks!

Was this the basis for Zulu starring Michael Caine?

When you decide that Kubrick, de Palma, Romero, and Carpenter are all ass-grabbing fools and the only cure for your fever is killer trucks and Pat Hingle with a rocket launcher,
you might be on cocaine.

They escape, have one final confrontation with a possessed ice cream truck (and the “Green Goblin” Western Star), and set off in a sailboat. The defeat of the aliens three days hence is announced via text crawl. A bit anti-climactic, but fitting the movie.

You forgot one thing:
Hey, Stephen? Which of these AC/DC tracks should we use on the soundtrack?
ALL OF THEM
